Tattoos are no ordinary designs that you paint in your body just because they are cool.  Tattoos are symbols that represent many things, especially among the Chinese.

Chinese culture is represented by many symbols, including letters in the form of Chinese  characters,  to communicate in writing.

With a history that dates back to thousands of years, the use of Chinese tattoos have evolved into many forms and shapes that getting the perfect Chinese tattoo to suit your use and need can be a long and tedious process.  Your choice becomes even more complex if you are not familiar with its culture.

For the ordinary man on the street, there are countless Chinese tattoo designs to choose from – letters, dragons, flowers, animals, etc.

Of course, the most common are the letters or symbols in Chinese characters.  Well, getting one is not too much of a formidable task,  but choosing one that is truly symbolic of your ideals can be tricky.   You need to do your homework by asking around the Chinese community.  If that is too much of a feat for you, nothing beats Google and other online resources.

For sure, not all artists are familiar with Chinese characters and are not likely to know what the letters or Chinese characters mean.  But with a few clicks of your handy computer mouse, then that should help you translate certain names into Chinese characters.

But if you're not that techie and you want to be more certain about your choice, then you might want to choose the figure of a dragon.  After all, you might say you cannot go wrong with an ever-popular Chinese dragon as a bringer of luck and a symbol of machismo.

But make sure you don't mistake the European dragons for the Chinese reptiles.  In Western myths, dragons are generally portrayed as evil and terribly fierce fire-breathing menace.  Among the Chinese, dragons represent good luck, strength, and power.

Flowers also make a popular Chinese tattoo designs, but they represent different symbols of ideals and virtues.  The lotus, for example, symbolizes purity, while chrysanthemum represents long life and bliss.

What ideals and virtues do you want to achieve in life?  Your choice of Chinese tattoo designs should make that answer.
